Anastasia Gavrilova's Award-Winning Design Offers a Unique and Engaging Drinking Experience

Anastasia Gavrilova, a designer known for her innovative approach, was inspired to create the PEGTOP during an educational trip to London. She noticed the inconvenience of spoons and sticks for stirring sugar or milk in cafes. This observation, coupled with her appreciation for the beauty of natural forms and the grace of an undisclosed flower, led to the birth of the PEGTOP design.

The PEGTOP is not just a cup; it's a game-changer in the world of drinkware. The cup's innovative design allows it to rotate around its pivot-center on a stand-saucer with just a push of the hand. Its special pear-shaped design and the ribs inclined towards rotation ensure good mixing of drinks and prevent spillage. The streams of liquid go down, eliminating the discomfort of a spoon hitting the cup. The process of drinking coffee or tea is transformed into a beautiful game.

The PEGTOP is made from ceramics, porcelain, or glass, and measures 90 mm x 90 mm x 90 mm. The saucer measures 130 mm x 130 mm x 11 mm. The cup has a useful volume of 230 ml and a full volume of 300 ml. The design was realized with the help of Rafael Gaynullin and was exhibited in Ventura Lambrate in Milan in April 2014.

The design process was not without its challenges. The team wanted to create a structurally simple yet impressive design. They paid much attention to efficiency and usability, striving to combine rotation, the usual forms of a cup, and safety. Several prototypes were made to achieve the perfect shape with sufficient stability of rotation. The final design includes an axis on the saucer, a pear-shaped cup, and ribs inclined in the direction of rotation.
